There is nothing like drinking out of a handmade cup, especially when the hands who made it are yours! Make one yourself in this creative and engaging pottery class.

You will be provided with pre-rolled clay slabs, enough to make two mugs, and will then be led through a step-by-step demonstration on how to create a cup with a handle using a template. You will then be set free to make your mugs with the instructor on hand for guidance. We encourage everyone to add their own touches and artistic flair so they have a truly one-of-a-kind functional creation.

Wondering what to do in Vallejo that will give you the mindful break you need? Nothing is better than pottery at helping you unwind, and the rewards of your own handmade cup will inspire you to jump into more creative projects.

You will be able to select a glaze and have it fired, ready for it to be picked up from the pottery studio within two weeks.

Vallejo Clay Workshop is located in the pottery studio of Whitney Smith in beautiful downtown Vallejo. Whitney has been a full-time potter for over 20 years, and started her studio in Oakland, California before moving to Vallejo with her husband and cat in 2018. She opened her new studio on Marin street in March of that year.

Starting a workshop to teach students was not part of the original plan when Whitney moved to Vallejo. But so many locals asked for an opportunity to get their hands in clay that Vallejo Clay Workshop insisted in being born.

The studio is an inspirational space where groups of students can gather and create work. The studio is currently equipped with work tables, a slab roller, kilns, and all the tools needed to make functional or sculptural work.

Because space is limited, classes and workshops are small and individual attention to students is key. We will continue to add new classes, be sure to sign up for our email list so you can be the first to know!
