What you'll do
Prepare for Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) by learning to make Calavera masks in this workshop in Oakland. This is a traditional Mexican folk art form that puts intention into honoring and welcoming the souls of the dead from October 28th-November 1st. It is a reminder that you are alive, breathing, and although life is fleeting, there is no fear.
Join Asé Arts for a workshop that explores this artisan style of painting while you also learn about the preservation of history and ancient traditions. In this workshop, you'll be given a Calaveras mask (molded from therm-a-plastic) to paint. All paints, painting supplies, and references will be provided.
This workshop is a chance to express your creativity, so feel free to bring any embellishments you would like to add to your mask. You'll leave with a beautiful mask ready for festivities.
