6 x 3 hours Class size 4 to 6     label $325

Join an expert ceramicist from Vallejo Clay in their friendly pottery studio to explore and build on your pottery-making talents in six craft classes.

Using hand-building pottery techniques like pinching, coiling, and slab work, you will create everyday functional items such as cups, bowls, vases and more. Everyone is welcome to join from total beginners to people who want to learn more and improve their skills, and you are sure to meet some fellow clay-lovers just like yourself!

This pottery course will start you on a few simple creations like basic tableware before tackling more advanced pottery projects like vases and pitchers. Every pottery class begins with step-by-step demonstrations from your teacher and then moving on to hands-on practice time. After the first week of class, there is an hour of open studio time for students before the class begins.

Students will glaze and fire their own work, giving them the opportunity to see the pottery making process from beginning to end.

If you're on the hunt for creative things to do in Vallejo, pottery is a great way to inspire imagination with amazing results.

Vallejo Clay Workshop is located in the pottery studio of Whitney Smith in beautiful downtown Vallejo. Whitney has been a full-time potter for over 20 years, and started her studio in Oakland, California before moving to Vallejo with her husband and cat in 2018. She opened her new studio on Marin street in March of that year.

Starting a workshop to teach students was not part of the original plan when Whitney moved to Vallejo. But so many locals asked for an opportunity to get their hands in clay that Vallejo Clay Workshop insisted in being born.

The studio is an inspirational space where groups of students can gather and create work. The studio is currently equipped with work tables, a slab roller, kilns, and all the tools needed to make functional or sculptural work.

Because space is limited, classes and workshops are small and individual attention to students is key. We will continue to add new classes, be sure to sign up for our email list so you can be the first to know!
