What you'll do
If you're curious about pottery making and want a mini-course on the process from beginning to end, then give this NYC ceramics course a go! It's a chance for complete beginners to try their hand at the potter's wheel, with no experience necessary.
In this pottery class, you will be meeting for three consecutive weeks. During the first class, you will learn wheel throwing basics of how to make simple forms on the pottery wheel. Then, your instructor will guide you as you try it yourself. You'll be able to try and try again until you get a piece (or more) that you like.
During week two, you will have the opportunity to trim the works from last week by turning them upside down on the potter's wheel. You will also be able to sponge your works to a smooth finish and further refine.
On the last class, you will learn glazing which is how you decorate and add color to your pottery by painting or dipping on a liquid glass suspension. Various colors and surfaces are possible. The works that you create will be ready to be picked up one week after the last class.
This class is great for those who want to experience clay and have their hand in every part of the process from start to finish, allowing the student to be exposed to all the stages of firing and finishing while also getting pottery in time for the holidays!
If you're interested in learning a new and fun hobby, pottery will allow you to dig your hands into clay, unwind, and create unique handmade ceramic goods!
