label $85 - $110 ($110 per guest when you book for 1 guest, $85 for 2+ guests)

Experience the playful and therapeutic nature of clay in this pottery workshop in Oakland with the art of hand-building and wheel throwing. This is a private workshop.

Learn ceramics basics with your teacher Judy Fleming, about how to work with clay and what to expect from the drying, glazing, and firing process. You will get a demonstration of both hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques.

These sessions act as a combination of a ceramics lesson and an open and safe space to share what’s up, if desired. Judy is the facilitator and the clay invokes a playful, transformative, and grounding experience. Wheel-throwing or hand-building are available strategies, the classes are “molded” to accommodate desired outcomes.

Your session will start with a grounding and check-in. Then Judy will do a hand-building and/or wheel-throwing demo. After the demo, she is your assistant and available for support. Your session will take place over 1 hour and 45 minutes.

These classes make for great team building activities or if you're looking for creative connection in your community. Youths are also welcome to join this unique clay workshop and explore their creativity.

The session takes place at Judy's studio space which is a part of a working artist community. The space has a warehouse feel- tall ceilings, and garage door, ample space to create. The session will include clay that will be finished and fired in the kiln. You will likely end up with two or more pieces! You get to pick the glaze. Finished ceramics will be ready for pick up about three weeks after the session.

Please Note

  • The studio space is accessible with a wheelchair.
  • The studio is within a gated warehouse space, please message me when you arrive
  • Large team building events are possible, I come to you (hand-building only), or I can book a larger space nearby in Oakland to facilitate larger groups (4-15)
