Class Style: Hands-On. This is a partially Hands-On participation class.
Don't let this Japanese specialty intimidate you, we'll show you how it's done!
Our instructor Rui will be bringing her energetic and charismatic personality to this fun hands-on class! Rui will start off by explaining the tools and tricks of the trade, then dive into the origins of sushi. She will show you how to make the perfect sushi rice and teach you how to craft the perfect roll.
Get hands-on experience making your own sushi as instructor Rui guides you through preparing these three rolls:
Hand-pressed salmon nigiri
Smoked salmon sushi roll
Tamaki roll
Come hungry, you'll be eating everything you make!
Introducing our newest instructor, Rui Xue! Originally from China, Rui has called the United States home for nearly two decades. Her love for cooking is deeply inspired by her mother, who always prepared delicious, fresh, homemade meals. This foundation of flavorful, family-centered cooking ignited Rui's passion for "making good food"—especially for her loved ones. As a mother of three delightful children, Rui has spoiled them with such exceptional meals that they refuse to eat school lunches! In a way, it's a testament to just how good her cooking is!

Eric Frickle, owner of The Kitchen Engine (TKE) had a long-time dream to own and operate a family business close to where he grew up. When his parents approached him about collaborating to open TKE in the heart of Spokane, his dream came true. With each passing year, the community, partnership, and support has confirmed that this is exactly where Eric and The Kitchen Engine are supposed to be.
Today, TKE is Spokane’s premier kitchen store for top quality culinary necessities, foodie gifts, kitchen gadgets, cookware, appliances, pantry items, and more in the greater Spokane area and beyond. It is the “go-to” kitchen store for everyone, from the home cook to the well-seasoned chef. Our employees are an extension of our family and provide both excellent customer service and thorough product knowledge so that each and every customer can know that they’re taken care of and our top priority.
