I grew up in a family that buzzed with creativity—makers, fabricators, musicians, textile artists, illustrators, ceramics enthusiasts, tinkerers, and fixers. The phrase “What if…” or “Let’s see…” was a constant refrain, sparking endless ideas, projects, and lively discussions across every household in my extended family. I liked being right in the middle of it.By fifth grade, I had written and illustrated two storybooks, painted murals on the classroom wall, and convinced my teacher to let me take over a block of class time to produce a play I’d written, cast, directed, and produced.
