Discover the art of printmaking and pattern design in this interactive workshop in Seattle!
This eight week course will introduce design strategies for creating patterns and then realize those patterns in a variety of print media. Printmaking methods covered in this course include linoleum relief, monoprint, and screen print.
This course will cover:
  • Introduction to methods such as relief printing, intaglio, lithography, and screen printing.
  • Fundamentals of designing repeating patterns and motifs.
  • Techniques for carving and printing with linoleum or wood blocks.
  • Creating and applying stencils for pattern development and printing.
  • Understanding color relationships and applying them in printmaking.
  • Techniques for layering multiple colors and ensuring precise alignment in prints.
  • Exploring unconventional materials and methods to create unique patterns and prints.
  • Preparing different surfaces for printing, such as paper, fabric, and other materials.
  • Developing ideas and concepts for pattern and print projects.
  • Engaging in peer critique and refining techniques based on feedback.
By the end of the course, you'll not only have acquired essential printmaking techniques but also have a collection of beautifully crafted prints to take home.
