What you'll do
Create fun fiber art in this online weaving class! In this workshop, you will learn many techniques for weaving in a circular form with all sorts of fibers and ornamentation. This can include fabric, yarn, string, lace, ribbon, buttons, beads, jewelry parts, driftwood, toys, and anything else you'd like to add.
Even though everyone will learn the same techniques, your instructor will support you to develop the piece in your own way. You'll be able to create a piece that matches your aesthetic and reflects your own artistry.
There are many ways to add your warp to the circle, to create a background, to weave into it, and to add in more decorations. You'll have the skills and knowledge to make many more of these on your own after the workshop ends. Your one-of-a-kind, dynamic pieces will pop with color, texture, and excitement!
Knowledge required
Beginner through advanced. All levels are welcome!
What to bring
- Fabric, yarn, string, lace, ribbon, buttons, beads, and anything else you'd like to add.
- An open circular shape, ring, or hoop of any size to use as the loom. It must be strong enough to hold a weaving and to not bend. It can be made of wood, plastic or metal. If you don't have anything like this, you can use a round piece of sturdy cardboard.
- Fabric scissors.
- Sewing needle and thread
- 3" embroidery needle with a wide eye.
