What you'll do
Experience the excitement of making your own piece of jewelry in this silver ring making workshop in Denver! This is a three-hour hands-on workshop, in which you will learn the silversmithing fabrication techniques to make a sterling silver band ring. All materials and tools will be provided for the workshop. Just come, have fun, and learn!
This silver smithing jewelry class is beginner friendly. During the workshop, you will be led step-by-step through the processes by your experienced instructor. It is a very safe environment; however, you will be asked to sign a liability waiver, and safety will be discussed.
The process begins by measuring and cutting a piece of sterling silver to the desired width of your ring. Next, the metal is annealed with a torch. Annealing is the process of heating metal with a flame to make it malleable. After each time the metal is heated, it is cleaned in a solution to remove the oxidation that is created on the surface.
Once the metal is prepared, you will have choices of hammers and metal stamps to texture a pattern onto the sterling silver, creating your personal design. This is where you creativity can shine, as you turn your band into a one-of-a-kind piece of art!
Then the metal is cut to the length required for your ring size, formed into shape, and soldered together. The final steps are refining, buffing, and polishing your creation to have a beautiful shine!

Jimmy’s passion for creating with his hands began at a young age and has continued through the years. He began formal training in metalsmithing and jewelry design at The Craft Guild of Dallas. After relocating to Colorado, he continued training at Denver School of Metal Arts and served on the board of directors at Boulder Metalsmithing Association as Director of Events. Jimmy shares his craft of metalworking by teaching classes and workshops in his Denver studio.
