Eric Frickle, owner of The Kitchen Engine (TKE) had a long-time dream to own and operate a family business close to where he grew up. When his parents approached him about collaborating to open TKE in the heart of Spokane, his dream came true. With each passing year, the community, partnership, and support has confirmed that this is exactly where Eric and The Kitchen Engine are supposed to be.

Today, TKE is Spokane’s premier kitchen store for top quality culinary necessities, foodie gifts, kitchen gadgets, cookware, appliances, pantry items, and more in the greater Spokane area and beyond. It is the “go-to” kitchen store for everyone, from the home cook to the well-seasoned chef. Our employees are an extension of our family and provide both excellent customer service and thorough product knowledge so that each and every customer can know that they’re taken care of and our top priority.

Thai roll class. Delicious. Loved seeing fried and fresh versions of the rolls. The teacher was knowledgeable and willing to share shopping knowledge, of ingredients both fresh, canned or paste and what to look for. Enjoyed very much.

Extraordinarily good thing you for anybody wants to cook. Classroom itself as well appointed. It is next to an excellent cooking related store. This class was informative and well presented. My only backward take on this was the cooking style was the style that relied to heavily on bacon as a central oil modernly, we know that the bacon might be good now and then, but I would caution anyone not to have a can of bacon fat in ones kitchen for general cooking

Everything was wonderful!! Loved the hands on especially with the chilies from heating them peeling & stuffing them!! Only one suggestion would be for each person to beable to flour coat the chili & dip it in the egg batter and fry it. Great value for the money I really enjoyed the class.

The food was great and you get to leave with recipes of everything you made in class. Not even 24 hours after class was I already trying to re-create a dish.

Class was good, questions were answered well regarding starter. We were given written recipes but realized after I was home, no recipe was provided to make the sour dough bread!! I have to check Google for that. Feel the class was a bit overpriced, however we were able to take home the starter glass.

Loved this class. It was a lot of fun and, considering that I'd never had savory scones before, a new experience for me. I already had a scone recipe, given to me by a friend in England who "knows scones." Well now I have a new base scone recipe! This one is the best I've ever had! (And I have since made the feta scones at home - it is easy to replicate!)

The Steak 101 was great! We learned how to make the Perfect steak, by doing some oven time, and then searing in a cast iron skillet. The 3 different steaks that were prepared were all cooked perfect, they were tender, and tasted marvelous!
Our chef, Al, was fun to watch and listen toand answered all the questions everyone had. He was a great chef and teacher. We had attended the Prime Rib class Al taught in Decand we learned how to make a perfect prime rib. We would go to another class taught by Al. We're also looking at other classes to attend, that you are offering. It's fun to be at the Kitchen Engine for these classes.

Al is a great teacher; very knowledgeable. Loved the casual atmosphere & how we could ask any question at any time. And it was FUN!
It gave both me and my husband a whole new way of looking at how we cook steak. (Cook in oven first & then sear) Being able to compare 3 different kinds of steak side by side was awesome. And the vegetable side dishes were incredible & would be easy to prepare.

We try our best to keep our classes affordable, but also know the importance of being able to recreate the recipe at home, which is why each student goes home with a portion of Sourdough Starter, and a jar specifically designed for Sourdough Start. Minus the cost of those items, the price for the class is about $40, hopefully that helps explain the cost associated with this class!

It was less than an hour class so I felt it was a bit high priced but grateful for the jar and the samples of bagels which is my first recipe I’ll try! This class was SO much fun! My husband and I gave this experience to our daughter and son-in-law for Christmas and it was well worth the wait. Our 11 year old granddaughter attended as well and she did great. Instruction was easy to follow, and the taste…well I have a new found love for sushi! I honestly was going for the fun experience with family and didn’t expect to like it. I was pleasantly surprised and was stuffed by the end of the night. Thank you Kitchen Engine!

I got this class as a birthday gift for my 14 year old daughter. We were both excited and not sure what to expect. The class was amazing we started off with a salmon sashimi. Salmon is not our favorite fish going into this. After the first sashimi. We looked at each other and said that was sooooo good. The whole class was put together in a way that the skills built on each other. By the end I feel like I can make sushi at home with confidence. I was very excited to find out that there is a sushi 102 class which we plan on doing as soon as we can.

We were gifted the cooking class for Christmas by our son. We picked the Thai class and it did not disappoint. The chef was very informative with fun tips, and the food was amazing. The class was relaxing as we watched him prepare the food and explained techniques and substitutions The barista came around and took drink orders. The staff were all very friendly and we had a great experience. We would book again.

Great class- Our host, Nick, was personable, funny and knowledgeable. The 3 dishes served included a number of the unique ingredients found in Thai cooking so was helpful to learn where to find them and what to look for. I appreciated the organization to have pizza ready to eat as we started the class, ation on appropriate toppings, and tips on baking. My husband and I received a gift certificate from our daughter and son-in-law for Christmas and decided on the Gnocchi class. We wanted a hands on vs. a demonstration class. Unfortunately, my husband was sick the day of the class so my daughter filled in. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and learned how to properly make a proper pillow light “Nona” gnocchi.
Jen did a wonderful job explaining each step and was easy to follow the process. Both my daughter and I are practiced cooks and we learned some great tips.

We enjoyed the class, but the instructor seemed very inexperienced and like he hadn’t actually prepared the foods ahead of time to be ready for the class. The rice paper may have been new and unfamiliar to him and it did not work well. I think some attendees were gluten free, and instead of getting GF wrappers just for them, he got all GF wrappers and they didn’t work well. I would have preferred if the larger group had not been not given the GF substitute because a couple of people were GF. Accommodations could have been made for them that didn’t mean sacrificing quality for the entire class. Other than that, the food was delicious and we had fun.

This was my first class at the Kitchen Engine. Absolutely loved my butter kitchen class! The chef was incredibly knowledgeable and explained all of the ingredients, where to find them and how to cook with them before even starting the recipes. She also walked us through each step and gave great papers that had all her notes! The food was delicious and having a bartender bring us drinks was such a nice touch. The space was set up perfectly for the class. 10/10 recommend! Can’t wait to try another class.

I’ve wanted to take a cooking class for many years now. Indian food was an excellent choice! Noreen taught us much about spices, terms, how to mix ingredients, what to look for whilst cooking, and so much more. I loved rolling the naan bread and adding our spices to it! Noreen is an excellent teacher and the butter chicken was PHENOMENAL.

I think it was a good value. We had a great meal, learned a new skill, and it was all engaging and smelled so good!

This class was a fun entertainment style class that opened my eyes to additional ways of meal planning. Quite often I get into a dinner rut and with just a little bit of planning and food prep, this class showed me how I can have 6 different hearty soup bases in my freezer. Then when I am in need of a quick dinner, these soup bases along with a few fresh chopped veggies and spices and/or sauces I already have in my kitchen, dinner can be ready in under 30 minutes.
Jamie and her staff were amazing as always, fun and engaging. I always look forward to the KE classes.

This class was great. Jeff was entertaining and informative, and took the time to answer questions that popped up. We able to see everything either up close or on large monitors. All the dips and spreads we got to sample during class was delicious. We all got our own loaf of fresh bread to take home and a great bread pan. Jeff also came up with a playful competition for our attendees to compete and win a prize. Honestly, would recommend this class for the aroma alone.

I am trying to learn to make more homemade bread. I haven’t been successful in making a good sourdough starter. I was very pleased that we got to take some home to start baking with. By this morning it had already doubled in size and I am ready to start my process! Jeff is a good instructor that keeps your interest! This class was a good excuse to get together with a friend. Our teacher was fun, very knowledgeable and helped us make some of the best scones I’ve ever had. The savory scones she prepared ahead of the class were just the right crunchy on the outside and not dry on the inside. Besides learning how to make great scones I learned about the differences in butters and how they can affect the texture and taste of what you are baking, when to freeze for best results, great spices and flavorings.

All the recipes were delicious and we went home with plenty to eat later. Lettuce wraps, burritos, fish sticks, and chocolate truffle pie. The pie was so great, I had to save half for another meal. I just completed the second class in the Cooking 101 series. This class was also a great experience. I've been cooking for years, but I'm learning a great many things from the classes. Chef Curtis is clear and well-prepared. I really appreciate the easy access to him and his willingness to explain. The dishes chosen seem to represent the planned cooking methods thoroughly. Last night's class was thoughtfully arranged to accommodate the times needed for all to prepare and cook our dishes. The support staff is also great; in addition to helping Chef Curtis they're also friendly and helpful for the students. I'm excited to complete all four classes!

Would be nice if drink orders could be taken before class instruction starts as it’s difficult to hear over the talking. Jamie is such a great chef and teacher. I have always wanted to learn about basic Mexican cooking. The food was delicious. Among the other amazing tips I learned was how to take the heat out of jalapeno peppers. Salsa Roja calls for 2 jalapenos peppers. I looked at those peppers and thought I would not be able to eat the salsa. But, my son and I followed Jamie's instructions: take the white vein out and all the seeds. Amazing, no heat! To say I am a novice baker would be granting me too much experience, so it was with trepidation that I signed up for this class. My worries were for nothing! Chef Curtis did a wonderful job demonstrating the procedures, answering questions, and organizing the print information we received. By working in pairs, we each had time to practice enough to take the fear of the unknown out of the process. Participants encouraged each other and Chef Curtis was always gracious about errors, emphasizing that pate a choux takes time and practice to learn well. The tester food was delicious, too! I had a great time and will definitely take another class in the future.

I think two of the three recipes were great. the noodle dish was ok but the other two were better. the soup was really really good.
I would say there was value for money and would take another class from him.

two negatives:
The final dish was doled out to the attendees but there was such a time lag between the first and last people as to be annoying. I don't know how to fix this but it really was not good for the final couple of servings.

This is personal and just bothered me. I had gotten a cup of coffee before the event started ( 15 min before) and then brought what was left to the event. The girl serving drinks never asked me if i would like wine or a beverage as she asked all the other attendees. Almost seemed like she was purposely avoiding me. I will say at the final stages she did ask me if i wanted anything but that was a little too late. Am I never coming back because of if it,of course not. just found it annoying.

Instructor was wonderful and very fun and knowledgeable. Great at showcasing unfamiliar ingredients, answering questions and giving options/substitutions suggestions.

My one improvement was that there was no cooking done by the participants which was disappointing. While it was great to still learn some things, if a class is going to be non interactive in the way that the participants will be doing no cooking/practicing it should be noted in the class details.

This is the first class I’ve taken with The Kitchen Engine, and it definitely made me want to come back for more! The instructor was very clear in her directions, but she was also very receptive to questions and happy to provide more context. Not only did we get copies of the recipes used, but we were able to take notes throughout the process, which will really help me to replicate them at home.
Once the demonstrations were complete, we were able to practice our pie baking skills and make mini pies to take home! While those were baking, we got to try both the chicken pot pie and the apple bourbon pies made earlier during the demonstrations. Spoiler alert: they were delicious!

We’ve never experienced a class (outside of standard education), so we had zero expectations. We are also not coffee snobs, pressing brew on our Keurig is as fancy as it gets in our household.

The two Doma instructors did a wonderful job of explaining every step and the “method behind the madness”. We easily followed along and LOVED the hands on learning. Although we aren’t coffee enthusiasts (yet), they’ve sparked some intrigue.

We felt the room was a bit tight and moving around to get a good look at what the instructors were showing (specifically the espresso machines) was a bit of a challenge.

We also greatly appreciated the snacks and water. With the amount of caffeine ingested this kept us from feeling sick.

Overall, we loved it and are GREATLY looking forward to our next class with Kitchen Engine. Fingers crossed there will be a Sushi 101 class scheduled on the weekend. (Wink, wink).

What a great class, it was my first time even doing a cooking class. And it was wonderful. Chef Curtis was knowledgeable, nice and helpful. Loved having all the recipes printed and on a clipboard with a pen to write notes.
Wish there were more options for drinks as we don't drink alcohol or coffee. Overall, going to tell my friends about it and looking forward to signing up for another class.

We had a wonderful time learning how to make a delicious Prime Rib, and we are excited to put all we learned into our Christmas dinner Al was a good teacher, and we appreciated he took time to answer all the questions, we, and others, asked him! The Kitchen Engine has a fabulous kitchen to be in. We were close to everything going on, as well as being able to view what was going on by looking at the large TV screens.

Fun informative class for a good overview of decorating cookies with royal icing. The prepped materials (cookies, icing colors and bags) were all of top quality and easy to use. Jamie kept the class moving at a good pace while demonstrating the techniques for everyone to see. Her designs were easy enough for beginners but had enough details to make them seem professional. My only issue was lack of work space so that I ended up touching the drying cookies while decorating others so that was kind of frustrating. The staff at the Kitchen Engine were friendly and helpful.

I really enjoyed our instructors personality. He made everyone feel comfortable. I did find the instructing a bit confusing. What would have helped me most was if we had a step by step instructions on how to do the starter and then use it. For example if he had spelled out what to do if you want to use it the same day or in a week. Also a definition of feeding the starter on paper would be helpful too. I didn't ask, but everything was in grams, not sure why and I should have asked about it. Overall though the class was enjoyable, loved the venue.

Jeff did a great job explaining and demonstrating the basics of a sourdough starter. The setup was great to enable us to make our own starter as well. How to use a starter and maintain it is more complicated than it appears and he did an excellent job fielding questions clarifying the process. His samples were delicious and he is extremely knowledgeable in the art of sourdough baking! It was a very worthwhile class. Thank you!

The instructor was very friendly and helpful. Our class had a lot of questions and he did his best to answer all of them clearly and was not hesitant to clarify or repeat himself when needed. The shop was nice, it had the scale used in the class stocked so we picked one of those up. Parking was validated for the class, and the kitchen engine shop employees were also friendly and helpful. The instructor passed out samples of a sourdough loaf at the beginning of the class, then we moved onto distributing our shares of his mother, and feeding them in our individual jars. The class wrapped up with some sourdough we all got to try. The class had an apron laid out per chair, a clipboard with two sheets of paper (one the first was instructions and quantities for the starter, with lines for taking notes printed on the back of the page, the second paper was a recipe for the pancakes we sampled), a small saucer and knife for the bread sample, a bowl of pre-weighted flour for the starter, and a small drinking glass. Shared or passed around supplies included the cooking scales, water (ceramic pitchers for drinking and glass measuring cups for the starter), containers of the instructors mother starter, spatulas for mixing the starters, and condiments (warmed butter, jam, syrup) for the bread and pancake samples. Between the materials received (the pre-made and newly fed starter and jar to take home) and the thorough teaching, I do think this class was worth the money.

fantastic class. I've been very trepidatious about making pate a choux, every cooking show makes it sound so hard. But this was actually doable and it turned out great and I have a whole new bunch of ideas for fancy treats at house parties. The teacher was great and engaging, sharing her Indian cuisine recipes and tips. The food prepared was outstanding - chicken and the second recipe, plus how to make the quick "cheat" sauce to use w/o prepping each time. Also, the rice was wonderful. My step daughter is married to a man from India, but I don't think they do any of that cooking at home. She said that Noreen was excellent teacher and enjoyed the class as well, even though she currently has a lot of diet restrictions and wasn't able to eat dishes with onions or garlic in them.

The organization by Kitchen Engine and teacher Noreen were perfect. I could see and hear really well. This class was exactly what you need to cook Indian food right. This is going to go down as our absolute favorite wine and food pairing class that we've attended to date at The Kitchen Engine. Jeremy said at the very beginning of the class that he thought, and hoped, he really outdid himself with the menu. He was not wrong, not wrong at all. To quote a baseball term, "he hit it out of the park" Bravo Jeremy The food was absolutely perfect and delicious, and we are so very glad that we were able to get into the class and experience this. The wines that Antonio brought were perfect pairings with the menu as well. Listening to Antonio talk about the wines, where they are produced, the grapes, etc., is fascinating and he does a great job educating us on the wines from his country as well as other countries. You can tell he loves being a wine maker, which is why his wines are amazing.

We don't know how Jamie and Amanda do it, find and put together such fun and exciting events, but we're glad they do! Looking forward to more classes like this as they are an incredible value considering the courses of food being offered and the wines that are paired with the food.

I always enjoy Jeremy's tips, recipes, and broad knowledge. I loved the tiramisu. The cannoli was fun to create, however the filling seemed bland. This could be my western tastebuds ready for sweet and the Italian desserts purposefully light as Jeremy explained. I'll be back. The cannoli forms were adorable to bring home.

Jamie is an awesome instructor! I appreciated her tips (how to fix sauce if too salty…etc) & knowing why she prefers baking potatoes over boiling & why adding creme cheese to the Alfredo sauce works so well. (I could go on)
Loved the little salad & chance to try a different combination of oil & vinegar. And I feel confident in being able to make gnocchi. Sauce options were delicious & the ‘No recipe needed’ for the dessert at the end gave me a great hint for my next dessert after a more labor intensive dinner.
I’ve taken a number of classes at TKE & all have been great. Will be taking more & would love it if a macaron class was offered. I tried making them once- so I know they are labor intensive, but I wasn’t happy with the end result. :(

The class on chili rellenos was great! I was taught how to make them in the 1960s (yes) by a Mexican co-worker and have been making them ever since. My friends were puzzled as to why I would sign up for this class since rellenos are my specialty. But I did learn a lot from Vida and really enjoyed watching her cook. It was a bonus that she also prepared refried beans and Mexican rice for us. She did an excellent job, everything came out perfectly, and in time for us all to enjoy a delicious lunch! I was also super impressed with the teaching facility there at the Kitchen Engine, and the staff assistants.

Jamie was a great teacher… clear instructions, demonstrated technique well, stayed on task. I do think that the free hand Halloween cookie decorating was maybe a bit more difficult than other holidays might be, especially for those of us unsure of our creative ability. However, it was a good class, I enjoyed it and I plan to practice at home. Also, the venue is a great space for these classes. With the monitors, it is so easy to see what the instructor is doing.

Jeff is a super kind man and so willing to answer any question, many times! The facility is lovely and well equipped. Lots of staff to assist. The staff came to ask us about drinks as Jeff started class and I missed some info. Then, while we passed around the "mother" and weighed it and got it in our jars, I missed some of what he was saying. He made it clear that class was about the "mother" but I really wanted to taste some sourdough bread. At the end of class we were excited to hear that we got a discount to buy stuff, but The Kitchen Engine ran out of rye flour. And I don't think they had the glass jars to buy and I couldn't find the scale either! All easily fixable. I love that there are classes here, I still will attend again.

I loved walking away with the sourdough starter and glass jar. The classroom is awesome! The instructions were a little confusing, but Jeff was willing to answer any questions willingly. It was fun to sample the pancakes. Just wish we would have been able to sample sourdough bread and get more instruction on how to bake bread.

Jeremy was the perfect chef/instructor for this course! Gave hands on instruction while we followed. We even were able to make the pasta from scratch! The pork filling and brown butter sauce was divine. Made Ravioli making seem so simple and added in great tips. On top of that we ended up having some who wanted a vegetarian version so he was quick on thinking to make it happen. Would encourage this course or any courses offered by Kitchen Engine and Jeremy.

Jamie’s soups are always good. She shares a lot of good information that’s relevant like how to store ingredients we didn’t use a lot of, herbs, etc. She also is great about including the “why” not just the “how” even explaining what would happen if you swapped ingredients to make something that traditionally uses animal products vegan or vice versa.

Jeremy is a very energetic and fun instructor. He was very informative and made sure we all understood the directions before moving forward. We thoroughly enjoyed the class and can't wait to attend more. The facilities the Kitchen Engine provide are perfect for the size of classes they offer. Disappointing but just gives us another reason to come back to the store Which is always a highlight in our day!

I called to cancel yesterday do to a family issue and when was called today about the class I told them I had left a voicemail informing them I had to cancel. I then asked if I could get an in store credit. I was told because I did not cancel 72 hours in advance I could not get in store credit.

How am I to know, 72 hours on advance, of a family issue.

My wife and I have attended many cooking classes at the Kitchen Engine and I have to say I'm disappointed in not being able to get an in store credit.

This class is a 5/5 idea and will be only scoring 5/5 soon once the kinks are worked out. I love the idea of a "test drive" and it benefited me since I had always hesitated about taking a class. With this, I could test the waters to see if the delivery of the class fit into my learning style and comfort level, all for a very affordable fee. And it did But I think having 3 classes back to back in such a short time provided too much frenetic energy. Some may love that, but I prefer more calm. Knowledgeable teacher; awesome appetizers on the menu; provided the printed recipes to take home; loved getting to use top of the line tools to cut, zest, etc.; ingredients were fresh and things I wouldn't think to use (spicy jellies, cheeses used in new ways and different flavored balsamic vinegar); support staff was friendly and helpful; adult beverages were offered for a price to add to the experience; new kitchen was roomy and comfortable; and most importantly, I learned new things and the food was delicious! Overall, this class idea is a winner! Please keep them coming. I am an ok "cook" but always looking to add skills to my repertoire. I highly recommend this class for beginning cooks or chefs alike; those wanting to learn new/fun/creative recipes; those who don't have the time to attend the longer classes; a fun date night or hanging with your friends; or anyone who wants to eat some great food in a comfortable setting!

The instructor was engaging, entertaining, & funny.
Recommendations for class content:
• Offer handout that includes pertinent information for attendees to take home. Temperature guide for cooking—rare, med. rare, medium, etc
& cooking time guidelines
• It is very difficult to watch instructor & the demonstration, & at the same time be expected to take our own notes!
• Written handout should also include how/why different cuts of beef differ in cost. Maybe a “good, better, best” cut & cost list. Also would have been helpful to know how to cook less expensive cuts to maximize their tenderness & taste.
• Maybe also several great recipes that show how to enhance each cut of beef covered, i.e. cooking with wine, etc.
These are added- value items to justify the cost of the class. We can all learn many basic cooking skills on you-tube.
• Serve less food at this class in favor of adding the above.
The Kitchen Engine classes are the most expensive of the 5 cooking class venues that I’ve taken classes from in the Spokane area. I think by ramping up your deliverables, you can maintain a strong & growing customer base.

I had to rate this as OK primarily due to the snarky attitude of the teacher and the relatively meager portion of steak served to each participant. Al Baston opened the discussion with an "in your face" sort of delivery which seemed to catch some of the customers off-guard. He prompted the customers for questions but then seemed to ramble off-topic when answering. For some reason Mr. Baston's mannerism fell flat with me and also seemed to for others.
Finally, once the steak was done a server walked around and placed 2 - 3 very thin slices on each plate. This happened for each of the 4 steak cuts. I thought this was strange as it needed up with about 1 lb of each steak cut as leftovers. These leftovers were not offered to the participants.
This was all unfortunate as the steak was actually quite good and the cooking tips were excellent. With just a bit of tweaking this would have rated as 4 stars for sure.

Wine pairing with dinner food is an occasionally refreshing class than the typical cooking class. We learned about Italian small vineyard wines and enjoyed some great Italian dishes. The preparation of the dinner courses are time consuming so would not be feasible to prep in a 2-3 hour class. The recipes were helpful to get. It was easy to ask questions and our chef and winemaker were quick to answer them. Service from support staff was excellent.

The class was very informative but not as hands-in as the class description led me to believe it would be. I still learned a lot but it was quite expensive for what we did.

The venue was great, the staff wonderful. Not a very financially accessible class. The tools and ingredients were expensive. The recipe required the use of a specialty grain that only that store sells which is limiting and a bit unnecessary. I would've loved a class where we got to learn how to bake a consistently good bread out of things you can get at a regular grocery store. The information was helpful though and good for if you want to make your own fancy bread. This was not what I was hoping for however. Second Harvest in Spokane has lower cost classes, just not as many specifically bread baking classes. I think I will try them next. Overall though it was a good time, professional, and good for a night out.

I'm happy to hear you enjoyed our space and staff! We try and keep our prices affordable but as you know, costs have risen on everything and we also want to make sure our staff is paid. Jeff does use triticale in his recipe, I believe he provides some alternatives that are more widely available such as the Bob's Red Mill 12, 7, and 9 Grain Hot Cereal mixes.
We love 2nd Harvest, they are a fantastic non-profit organization! Hoping you are able to use the bread pan we give to each student for taking our class!

I loved the end result of what we made that day. The bread was delicious and the teacher was very kind and willing to answer all our questions.

Did wish we could've learned how to make the dough ourselves, using the ingredients listed on the paperwork. As I would've at least liked to know if I made any mistakes prepping the dough while in this class.

My 10 year old granddaughter was very reluctant to take the class. I could tell she was very nervous when we got there. When I picked her up she was full of smiles and excitement! She was so very proud of her pasta creation and served it to her mom that night for dinner. She wanted me to buy her a pasta machine after the class! Great class! Instructor was engaging and amusing. Gave a bit of history, tons of easy-to-follow directions, and even a few Star Wars jokes! The sushi my son and I made was great (though not always as 'presentable' as it should have been, but we'll be working on it), and the suggestion of adding thin slices of lemon was a great tip. My ONLY wish: I know the class was titled 'Beyond Rice', and we did get an instruction sheet on how to make it, I wish we could've spent 5 minutes talking about tips and tricks regarding making it, since it is the most important ingredient. Regardless - Enjoyable and informative class with a fun and knowledgeable instructor.

The instructor was pleasant & knowledgeable. The content of the subject matter was very basic. Not sure I would recommend someone take this class given the $110. cost.
For the duration (2.5 hrs.) & cost of the class, I would recommend expanding the content to include additional canning instruction such as chutneys & pickling. Eliminate the student hands-on portion as the instructor was able to demonstrate the process effectively in 1 hour, & could then add the additional canning information suggested above & still complete the class in under 3 hours. Kristi was a wealth of knowledge. I’ve canned many times before but was self taught. I learned several things that will make the process easier. I really had fun. Jamie was an excellent, informative, and personable instructor. The training kitchen was amazing. Having her orchestrate all of the participants was a little chaotic but it was fun to participate in prepping for the meal, seeing how quickly such a big feast came together. I also appreciated the assistants who were very nice and helpful. Jamie's mic at times was not cooperating (in the kitchen.) and it was a little hard to hear her at the farmer's market, but overall was a fun experience and I definitely would do it again or recommend it to someone.

I really enjoyed this class, as did my daughters who also attended. We did a variety of prep work and my daughters cooked the mushrooms for the tacos and made a vinaigrette ( Jossie had never done that.
We got a different angle on summer salads and and the sauces were both different and very good.
My only criticism would be that Jamie was occasionally drowned out by all of the background noise at the market.

The remodel of the kitchen engine is amazing! The cooking class spots give you enough room to spread out, make yourself comfortable cooking, but close enough to engage in conversation with the group next to you.

Jamie was a great chef to follow! She was cheerful and very personable. She gave great advice and was extremely helpful and patient when people asked her questions about cooking the meals at home.

It was very exciting to hear about some new chefs coming to the group, sign me up for a Thai Cooking class for sure!

The teacher was very kind and thorough, willing to give one-on-one instruction when needed. He did the best explanation of the "claw" that I have heard. The kitchen was beautiful and well-lit, the station was well-supplied with everything and was well-designed. If materials were provided, did you like them? It was fun to get to work with very high-quality knives that the average home cook doesn't get to work with very often. Was the experience good value for money? If you are a brand-new knife user, yes, very much so. I was expecting more opportunities for people who are more comfortable with knives as well, maybe working with some vegetables or cuts of meat that are more challenging to break down. Overall, I would recommend this to someone who has little to no experience with knife skills at all, not an intermediate knife user.

I would have liked to seen the three different brew ways but ran out of time so only could see one. That is alot to cram into 2 hours. We thought that Chef Al taught us important important techniques about cooking steak. The meal he provided was excellent, and he explained all of the steps in good detail. He began with a lesson on the different types of meat, and where the cuts come from on the cow. Some visuals in the form of diagrams would have been very helpful. Ultimately, however, the lesson was about cooking, not butchery, so I think his approach was very effective. Chef Al is very entertaining, but he could direct the class toward constructive questions instead of just asking a knowledge based question. In other words, make us feel confident about the answer before we give it. Overall, the class was good value for money, the food was excellent, and everyone was enjoyable to be with. We had a wonderful time and will take another class.
