I taught both children and adults in textile crafts and art for almost thirty years in Finland and trained teachers in that field at the University of Helsinki. Since moving to California four years ago I've opened my own fiber art studio where I teach workshops on natural dyeing, weaving and kids' after school fiber arts. I also weave rugs from recycled materials. I embrace traditions and meld those ideas and methods with modern materials and skills. I'm committed to environmentally sustainable crafts and would like to share the joy of creating and making with you. I'm following all the cleaning and safety guidelines provided by the local authorities including face covers, cleanness and social distancing.

My 17-year-old daughter and I took this class together and we both loved it. Auli was so friendly and knowledgeable and patient. Her studio is in a beautiful garden in the hills. The dyeing process takes some time and she was great at pacing it so that we would started the boiling process then do something else while waiting. She taught us about colors and the natural items that create them and how they can be changed. It was fascinating and made me want to take a chemistry class. The scarves we made were beautiful and I'm so excited to wear it and know that I did it myself. She also gave us information so we can try some of our own dyeing projects at home. I would highly recommend this class and I will likely go back again for some of her other classes.

Great class and cozy location. Would definitely recommend this class to anyone interested in learning more about natural dying. Auli was patient, thorough and lovely to learn from. She was also flexible in rescheduling when I had a family health issue so I appreciate your compassion in my situation.

This class was definitely worth it. My sister and I went on a Wednesday and Auli welcomed us with the utmost sweetness. We learned a lot about natural dyes and found the process of dyeing textiles so fun I don’t mind taking it in as a personal hobby. I ended up with a beautiful scarf dyed out of red onion skins. It makes you appreciate nature & art even more. Thank you Auli!

Auli was such a joy to work with. She is knowledgeable about natural dyes, its history, and processes – there is surely a lot to learn from her!
