Do you love eating Chinese dumplings at your favorite restaurant? Why not learn how to make them yourself? In this San Francisco cooking class, you'll learn how to make classic Shanghaineese dumplings from scratch and eat at a three course meal in the ultimate dumpling dinner party!

From scratch means from scratch: No pre-bought or pre-made dumpling skins: You'll mix and knead dough, roll out to 10-12 dumpling skins, and stuff fat dumplings: By the end of the night, you'll be a pro unleashing the secrets soy sauce that you can combine with everyday, simple ingredients.

We start with a brief overview of Shanghaineese cuisine and flavor profiles, with a brief tasting of my favorite soy sauces. Next, we'll put those ideas to use in a discussion of a braised soy sauce pork belly (红烧肉), a classic dish that will combine principles of slow cooking and balanced flavors. Then onto the main part of the experience: Making your own chili dumpling dish (红油水餃) from scratch. We'll end this delicious cooking class with a tang yuan (汤圆) red bean dessert... you will be in a food coma at the end of the experience!

You'll also receive a dumplings recipe guide after the experience, with all the sauces, recipes and tools you need to throw your own dumpling party at home.

  • This experience can be made with vegetarian stuffing upon request with 48h notice. A tofu-braise subsitute of the pork belly braise is available for non-pork / meat eaters.

Whenever I sat in my mom's kitchen growing up, she’d make dumplings while sharing memories of her own mom and grandma. I soon realized my generation was missing something important: The handmade techniques and traditions passed down through the ages. She went on to open a Chinese restaurant with my dad, where I was raised and where I learned how to make dishes featured in this class!

I'm passionate about food, cooking, and experiences, and can't wait to share with you. I’ve trained at French and Italian cooking schools, as well as locally with Chef Olivia Wu, who I’ve partnered with to teach her “Ultimate Umami” course in Half Moon Bay.

Eddie was a great teacher --really patient, engaging, and encouraging as we went step-by-step. The kitchen was clean and the perfect size for an intimate gathering. We analyzed the flavor profiles of different soy sauces and he explained how they were made. The taste testing was fun and informative. The dumplings were very tasty. Anyone can post a cooking class online, but actually having the skills to teach as well as solid culinary technique can be hard to come by. Eddie has both. My class ran smoothly from start to finish. As Eddie taught, he would work his way around from student to student ensuring everyone was making progress and giving tips, pointers and lots of encouragement. The studio place was well appointed and spotlessly clean. I'm pretty experienced in the kitchen and have some professional training, but still came away with great information and new insights. The food was delicious, artfully prepared and well presented. All of the other 5 star reviews on this instructor are spot on. Eddie's attention to preparation and every small detail makes the class seem effortless. Take this class. It's worth the time and money. Lastly, be prepared to have a fully stuffed belly by the time you leave.

Dumpling Dinner Party with Eddie was honestly one of the best cooking classes I've taken. There were only 5 of us which meant we got individual attention, as compared to some classes which have 15-20 people. Eddie is such a great teacher - he explains everything step by step, explaining the reasoning for each step, and knows exactly how to critique you and help you. I always thought dumplings were so difficult, but I feel very confident after Eddie's class. I really enjoyed the taste testing of the different soy sauces and learning about how they are made and how those differences affect the taste. The pork belly and the tang yuan he cooked were the best I've ever had. Eddie himself is so kind and has so much experience and knowledge, I really enjoyed chatting to him and learning from him. He made us feel so welcome in his home. I highly recommend this class!

Eddie did a great job teaching us about all things dumplings! Our group came to the class having never made dumplings before, and he taught us all how to make delicious dumplings that we would be able to recreate at home ourselves.

Eric was absolutely wonderful. He was made the soy sauce tasting and dumpling making so much fun (and he's pretty funny too!). The organization of the entire course from beginning to end was really well put together. I personally preferred this over cooking in a a kitchen studio because it's a lot more intimate. So if you have a group of 10 or less, I high recommend doing this versus other studio options!

This was one of the best experiences I've had. Eddie was welcoming and friendly and worked with us patiently throughout the session. We learned a lot about his experiences and he was very prepared with the ingredients and additional dishes for all of us besides the dumplings we were making during the class. We had a fantastic time at this class! Eddie was so kind and welcoming and was an excellent host as well as teacher. He started us out talking about flavors and trying some different soy sauces while one of the dishes got started. Then we started the dumpling making and he made sure everyone had a great view of his demonstration and helped out individually as well. He even had a plan for us to practice the assembly a bit first without wasting dough so we could get a feel for it. His timings were very well planned too, so there was almost no gap time waiting for things to cook.
Our class had both experienced cooks and people who don't cook much, and it was great for everyone!
