Want some virtual team activities with a difference? Try this online baking class and learn how to make mochi two ways.

Mochi is a sweet bite with a stretchy texture that comes from the key ingredient of glutinous rice. Your experienced teachers will guide you through this virtual experience as you make DIY mochi at home. There's plenty of time to ask questions as you watch demonstrations and learn all the best mochi-making tips, as well as mochi stories from Japan :).

You will be making daifuku mochi, which is filled with red bean paste and optional fillings of fresh fruit or Nutella. Secondly, you'll be making ice cream mochi, which is filled with a scoop of your flavor of choice.

What to bring
List of ingredients needed for the class:
  • Mochiko Rice Flour (Koda Farms Brand) on box or 1 lb
  • (at least one cups worth) Cornstarch or Potato Starch
  • Sweetened red bean paste (if disliked can use nutella instead)
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • Pint of Choice of Ice Cream (Pre-scoop ice cream into 2in balls, the scoops can be separated with cupcake liners, and place in tupperware; freeze 2 hrs before class or overnight.)
  • (Optional but recommended) Strawberries or choice of fresh fruit
  • (Optional filling) Nutella - refrigerate 2 hrs before class or overnight
  • Optional Ingredient: 1 tsp premium grade matcha powder to flavor mochi green tea.

Equipment needed:
  • Microwave or Stovetop
  • Large microwaveable porcelain or glass bowl
  • Cutting board or smooth surface
