Learn South Asian pottery techniques in this wheel throwing class in in NYC! This class is taught by our resident potter from Bangladesh who will guide you through your first-time pottery-making experience by showing you traditional shaping and making techniques from the east.

This class is for complete beginners where you will first learn pottery basics, and after making and smoothing your creation, you will use a line tool, plus the spinning of the wheel, to produce pots using the ancient principles of pottery design including banding, and a scalloped rim.

The class will begin with your instructor giving a brief demonstration of the pottery wheel. After the demonstration, you will be able to try to make your own at the pottery wheel, we encourage you to try as many shapes as you want.

We have plenty of clay, and you will be able to make several attempts until you find one that's right for you. Mark-making is optional but something that really sets this class apart.

At the end of class, you will be able to indicate what color you want your special piece to be glazed in, and you will be able to pick it up one week from the date of the class. We have a gorgeous traditional brown made specially for this class but you can also pick a more contemporary color if you prefer.

The final class time is dedicated to cleaning up your pottery wheel station. After class concludes, you will return one week later to pick up your work. Works from class are held for a maximum of three weeks from the date of class.
