What you'll do
Do you love roasting coffee but are tired of making the same mistakes over and over? Learn coffee roasting flaws and how to avoid them with Royal Coffee, and say hello to the perfect cup of steamy goodness!
In this online class, we will explore the nuances of profile roasting coffee and highlight the four common mistakes made in the process.
Each student will receive a kit of five pre-roasted coffees (the same coffee, five different roasts) to prepare on their own and taste together with the class.
Following the dissection of each roast’s flavor, the class will turn to a series of temperature graphs and discussion will be led highlighting the cause and effect of each flavor iteration.

Royal Coffee is a family-owned and operated importer of specialty green coffees, serving the international roasting community. Founded in 1978 by Bob Fulmer and Pete McLaughlin in a tiny office on Hollis St., the company began with the purchase of a single bag of coffee that Bob and Pete used as a desk until they found a buyer for it. They turned the proceeds of the first sale into two more bags, and the rest is history.
We now import the finest coffees in the world, from over 30 countries of origin and a vast network of producing partners. From warehouses in Oakland, Seattle, Madison, Houston, and Shanghai, Royal supplies some of the top roasting houses around the globe. Our humble roots continue to inform our day-to-day operations though, as many of our clients get their start with us buying a single bag of coffee.
The Crown: Royal Coffee Lab & Tasting Room opened its doors in March of 2019 as a part of Royal Coffee’s commitment to the community of Oakland, to specialty coffee lovers at large, and to education and transparency in the supply chain. The multi-use building includes a tasting room, presentation space, and brewing, roasting, and green coffee laboratories.
