Sgraffito Pottery Workshop: Perfect Party Platters

Make a sgraffito platter in this pottery class for foodies in San Francisco!

2 hours Class size 1 to 30 (public classes), 2 to 20

label $80 - $90 (Earlybird price of $80 applies if you book into a public session 7+ days ahead)

Everyone needs a party platter to plate their signature dish. In this pottery workshop in San Francisco, you will learn sgraffito techniques to customize a platter that you can bring to potlucks, picnics in Dolores Park or Friendsgiving!

You will learn how to design and carve a sgraffito pattern into a prepared ceramic platter. You will have a choice of bowls, flat platters, as well as unique molded shapes to bring their design to life. After designing and carving the food surface, you will learn how to flip your platters out of the molds and add a foot and your signature to the bottom of the piece.

Sgraffito (meaning “scratched” in Italian) is a technique that originated in Italy and the Middle East around the 10th Century. One color of slip or underglaze is painted over a contrasting color of clay body, and designs and patterns are carved into the surface. Sgraffito is incredibly easy to learn, but the results can be breathtaking.

Whether you're looking for fun things to do in San Francisco or a potter hoping to learn a new skill, you can enjoy a fun afternoon exploring your creativity and making a unique handmade platter!
