Anyone who's had homemade jam knows how delicious it tastes compared to preserves you find in stores. If you've always wanted to learn how to make jam from scratch, this class in Petaluma will have you stocking your pantry in no time.
This is an intimate class where you will get hands-on guidance from an expert with LALA's Jam Bar, who will show you the basics of how to make jam from LALA's kitchen.
You'll learn how to prepare the fruit and the jars for preserving your jam. If you've been intimidated about hot water processing or food safety, your teacher will put you at ease while showing you how to do everything step by step. Even complete beginners will feel confident replicating recipes at home.
Anyone looking for engaging cooking classes or fun things to do in the Bay Area will appreciate this informative and laid-back workshop. At the end of your time, you'll leave with a jar of delicious jam and the knowledge to make preserves on your own.

Meet LALA!
In 2014, I needed to do something new. As a child, my Scottish grandmother had taught me to make jam, and I'd continued making jams for friends and family as an adult. "Why not start a little jam business?" I thought. Why not, indeed. The State of California had started a new program - Cottage Food Operators - where certain foods could be prepared in home kitchens and sold to the general public. Mountains of paperwork later, I set up a card table in my front yard and sold my jams to neighbors passing by. In 2015, I expanded into my garage. Another year went by with many mistakes and bumps as I began the wholesale road. Business improved and my husband and I bought a 1930's cottage and remodeled it into a commercial kitchen and retail store.
