Fabric Dyeing Class: Faux Batik Technique Workshop

Learn how to add creativity and color to your home with a fabric dyeing workshop in Seattle! The Indonesian island of Java has a rich history of batik that involves a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to the cloth. Join artist and maker Robert Mahar in learning about this Javanese craft and then reimagine it utilizing a playful DIY method to create a beautiful custom throw pillow cover for your home. While paying homage to customary methods, this project will focus on a non-traditional method of replacing wax resist with an unexpected material. Instruction will explore traditional designs while allowing you the opportunity to create your own patterning, placement, and color palette. This fabric dyeing workshop is beginner-friendly with no previous experience necessary!All materials (fabric paint, dye resist, practice fabric, blank pillow case and brushes) are provided and included in the cost of the class. Please note that pillow inserts will not be included in the materials kit. You are encouraged to wear clothing that can potentially be stained or bring a protective apron to wear.Please noteOur current Covid protocol is that anyone attending an event can email us to let us know you prefer that people wear masks and/or we check vaccination records up to 72 hours before the event begins.
