Learn how to turn hand-drawn illustrations into repeatable screen prints in this screen printing workshop in Brooklyn. This multi-session class is designed to cover the fundamentals of screen printing on paper, with a focus on creating hand-drawn films that you will turn into prints!
The course begins with foundational screen printing lessons ie. image and film preparation using analog techniques, coating and burning screens, and printing basics. As the weeks progress, the course will move into more advanced techniques such as burning/printing multiple images on one screen, multicolor registration and printing with progressively larger screens!
The course begins with the fundamentals of hand drawing acetates in which you will learn how to print a two-color image using one screen. In the next class, you will be printing a two-color mini-comic with eight panels that measure 16x12" and will fold into itself! For the third class, you will be creating your own saddle stitch book! The class concludes with a final class project of a collaborative three-color 11x17" newspaper in which each student will get a spread.
These classes prepare any printer, beginner or advanced, with the knowledge to print confidently and successfully!
During the course, students will have access to our open studio during our hours of operation. This means you can print in your free time and work on independent projects throughout the course. It is highly encouraged you take advantage of this to get good!
Each class is four hours long and all materials are included, so all you need to bring with you is yourself!
