If you're intrigued by the Mediterranean diet, you'll want to add crunchy Turkish bagels to your list of things to make at home! In this online class, you'll learn how to bake Simit - a round-shaped dough covered with sesame seeds.

One of Turkey's most common street foods, Simit has been enjoyed in all major Turkish cities for over 500 years. When the Ottoman Empire reigned in Anatolia, flour warehouses were called Simithane, and the sultan's oven was called the simit oven. As such, the ring-shaped bread Simit made from flour was named the Simid-I Halka (Circle) in Üsküdar Şeriye, 1593.

Making traditional foods is a great way to feel connected to the rich history of a culture, and you can enjoy this online cooking class whether you have Turkish ancestry or not! All the ingredients you need to make Simits, along with some delightful Turkish tea to enjoy with them, will be mailed to you in an ingredient kit.

On the day of class, an experienced chef will take you step-by-step through the process of mixing and baking crunch Simits. Plain Simits are great on their own, though you may also feel free to bring any veggies or cheese you would like to use as optional fillings. This class is beginner-friendly for all experience levels.

Through this virtual experience, you'll bring 500 years of Turkish history to life in your kitchen!
