What you'll do
Are you on the lookout for unique San Francisco experiences? Create a gorgeous clay garden vessel and learn more about sustainability at this three-part pottery workshop with Artillery AG!
Whether you are a beginner or an advanced ceramicist, there is something for everyone to learn during this rejuvenating and eco-friendly experience.
During the course, you will learn basic hand sculpting techniques and approaches to working with clay, allowing you to experience its energetic and physical properties. There will also be time to learn how to use this clay vessel to water your plants in a sustainable way.
Class outline:
- Part one: coil building the vessel.
- Part two: smoothing out coils and design.
- Part three: sculpting the design with underglaze.
What you'll learn:
- Coil building.
- Scoring.
- Attaching.
- Creating volume.
- Drying properties of clay.
- Sustainable watering techniques.
- How this is an implementation of Indigenous technology.

This pottery class focuses on cultivating aspects of your creative self and how your actions as an artist can impact the world around you; be it the natural world, or your present or future world.
You will play an integral role in deciding how these clay vessels impact the world by choosing where they should go and what purpose they should serve.

Your teacher
In the summer of 2009 Artillery AG blossomed in the Mission district of San Francisco. Founders Iván Lopez and Alexa Treviño set out to establish a creative gallery and studio that would embody Nature, Familia, and Cultura.
Artillery AG is home to many art forms that we are able to connect with. Creating with clay, earth, paint, and photography.
With clay and flora, we are able to honor our Pachamama. We connect with our earth each time we mold clay and tend to our plantitas. Giving thanks to the Ohlone people for allowing us to be on their land.
Through photography, we reflect on the times and also our ancestors in each moment. Reminding us of the beauty we have within ourselves and that of our community, immortalized with light.
Painting is an act of resistance. You can see the stories of our people painted on the walls of the Mission. Each color expressing our vibrant cultura. Art is the universal language so powerful we can understand each other with just a brushstroke.
At Artillery AG we prioritize being a safe space for our QT and BIPOC Community. We will not accept hate in our space.
